Our Story

Euro Team Outreach is a Christian missions organization that has served in Ukraine since 2004 — a small team of American missionary families, rooted in the city of Lviv and working hand in hand with Ukrainian believers and local churches.

We exist for one reason: to make Jesus Christ known. For more than twenty years, through changing seasons and now through a war, that single calling has held steady — even as the way we live it out has changed again and again.

What we're about

From the beginning, our work has been shaped by three commitments — the same three that make up our mission:

  • Preaching the Gospel

Telling people, plainly, the good news that Jesus Christ died for sinners and rose again, and calls everyone to repent and believe.

  • Teaching the Bible

Getting the Scriptures into people’s hands and lives so they can know God’s Word for themselves, chiefly through our Bible First course.

  • Raising up laborers

Discipling the next generation of missionaries, who learn the work first-hand by serving alongside us in the field.

These three threads run through everything we do — and through every ministry we've built.

How we got here

Euro Team Outreach began in 2004, founded by three friends — Joshua Steele, Nathan Day, and Jessie Beal — who shared a conviction that Ukraine was worth a life’s work. (Joshua had already made Lviv his home in 2001, and has now served in Ukraine for twenty-five years.)

For most of the next two decades, the heart of ETO was Carpathian Mountain Outreach (CMO) — a summer missions project in the Carpathian mountains that, over seventeen years and thirteen projects, brought more than sixty young people to Ukraine to learn the work of a missionary by doing it: preaching at film showings, distributing literature, and sharing daily life with our staff. Out of that same season came Bible First, the study course that became our primary way of teaching the Scriptures, and our Ukrainian translation and distribution of the Good and Evil book.

Then the war changed the landscape. When russia’s full-scale invasion came in 2022, our family was displaced for a season, and the work bent toward the immediate needs of a country under fire — refugee ministry, and tens of thousands of Good and Evil books carried into war-affected regions. We returned to Lviv in 2023, and the final CMO project ran that summer.

What rose in its place is Ukraine Gospel Outreach (UGO). In 2024 we partnered with Ukrainian missionary Oleksandr Ilchenko to carry the Gospel — and practical aid — into the newly de-occupied villages of the south, places the larger aid groups had mostly left behind. UGO is our flagship today: the same message, carried by changed methods, into some of the hardest-hit corners of Ukraine.

The people behind the name

Here is something worth saying plainly: most people who stand with this work don’t picture an organization called “Euro Team Outreach.” They picture the Steeles, the Days, the Sargents — families they’ve prayed for, written to, and sent on their way. ETO is the structure that holds the work together, but the work itself has always been carried by real families who packed up, moved across the world, and stayed — through peace and through war.

That's by design. When you stand with ETO, you're standing with people you can know by name.
