A Call to Men
The Carpathian Mountains are home to thousands of unreached Ukrainians, living quite isolated from the modern world. Most major cities in Ukraine have at least some Gospel witness, but for many living in the mountains, Christ is little more than a figurine dangling from a chain. Religious though they are, most have never heard the call to believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins.
Young man, do you know Jesus? Have you been washed from your sins and made a son of God? Then God has called YOU to take the Gospel into all the world. Every summer, we take a team of men into the mountains of Ukraine and preach Jesus to those who have never heard. Your efforts are needed on that team. There are people in Ukraine that will not be saved unless you go and point them to Christ. Will you join us? Read on and find out how!
PLEASE NOTE: Registration for CMO 2009 is currently closed. To request information regarding registration for CMO 2010, please contact us. Thank you.
The Plan

Ukrainians living in the mountains are quite spread out. Some villages are accessible by road, others only by foot. Our team makes weekly trips into the mountains from our base in L'viv. Each trip lasts two to three days, during which time we distribute copies of Good and Evil from house to house. We also invite people to attend showings of evangelistic films, such as The Light of the World by Chick Publications. At the end of every showing, the Gospel is preached and people are given invitations to enroll in our Bible correspondence school.

When, Where, How
Carpathian Mountain Outreach begins every summer in June and lasts through the end of August. While in the Carpathians, team members live on a primitive level. This includes sleeping in tents, long-distance hikes carrying a 35lb. pack, and prolonged exposure to the elements. The weather in the Carpathians is often very rainy, and temperatures can change drastically over short periods of time.
When not in the mountains, the team focuses its efforts on publishing the Gospel throughout L'viv and other cities in Western Ukraine. This will include large-scale tract distribution, open-air preaching and chalk art presentations. Each piece of literature distributed by our team contains an invitation for the recipient to enroll in our Bible correspondence school.

Testimonies
Perhaps the best way to learn about CMO is to ask those who have done it. The following is a brief collection of quotes from former CMO team members.

“I think the most exciting part is when I lay down at night, totally exhausted from a day given completely to ministry, and realize that I spent another entire day spreading the Gospel.”
—Jeff Rhoades, CMO 2006

“I think that CMO is an excellent way for guys to get a taste of foreign missions through a short-term mission trip. It is designed in such a way that guys can still be useful in spreading the gospel without even knowing the language. It equips guys with the knowledge they need to begin a ministry of their own back home.”
—Andrew Darbyshire, CMO 2007

“CMO is a great opportunity for all guys whether they are interested in being a missionary overseas or not. I cannot think of a better way to spend a summer (or life for that matter) than serving and telling others about Christ. I pray that many more young men take advantage of this opportunity and in order to catch/fuel a burning passion for reaching others with the Gospel.”
—Benjamin Anna, CMO 2008

“The overall CMO project was a great success, not because we had X amount of people saved, or X amount of people sign up for the Bible course, but because we are out here preaching the Gospel as commanded.”
—Tucker Mullens, CMO 2007

“I feel almost like I'm in a training camp and I can't wait to get back and keep doing what I'm doing here.”
—Jonathan Rhoades, CMO 2006

“I liked the fact that we learned how to start a [Bible correspondence school] in the states and other ministries also. You should let everyone know about the training that you get by going. Thanks so much for doing CMO, I REALLY enjoyed it!!”
—Matthias Smith, CMO 2007

“Racing my son from mailbox to mailbox to deliver the Gospel message and seeing how much he enjoys doing mission work is a memory worth all the cost and difficulties to be here.”
—Jeff Rhoades, CMO 2006

“I think living in a different culture will affect my outlook on life. Ministering here has helped the fire for evangelism become greater.”
—Jonathan Steele, CMO 2006

“How can you summarize CMO...? In one word: life-changing.”
—Bryan Shufelt, CMO 2006

How to Apply
Ministering the Gospel overseas is a serious commitment. All believers are called to witness, but not all are called to serve in a foreign country. The application process outlined below will help to ensure that you understand what's required of you as a potential CMO team member. It will also give us the opportunity to get to know you before you come. Time is short, so if you are seriously considering participation in CMO 2009, we encourage you to begin the application process right away.
1. If you don't already have a US passport, get one.
Even if you don't end up coming to Ukraine, a US passport is good to have. It takes time to get one, so don't wait. You can pick up a passport application at your local Post Office or download one from travel.state.gov. NOTE: You must have a United States passport (not one from another country) before you come to Ukraine. If you are not a US citizen, please contact us before you apply for CMO.
2. Download the Info Pack and read it thoroughly. Download now
Don't skim it, read it. Many of the questions you have, and several you haven't thought of yet, will be answered in this document. Reading the Info Pack is required before you apply, and we will expect you to know the things contained in it.
3. Download the application and read it thoroughly. Download now
Once you have finished reading the Info Pack, fill out your application. Again, read all enclosed documents carefully.
4. Give the Applicant Recommendation form (part of the application) to your pastor or church leader.
At the end of the application packet you will find the Applicant Recommendation form. This must be filled out by your pastor or church leader and mailed to our office separately. We cannot complete your application process until we receive this document.
5. Mail your application, along with all applicable attachments to our main office.

Once we receive all the necessary documents from you, we will review them, and send you a response by regular mail, usually within a couple of weeks.

CMO Eligibility Requirements
Spreading the Gospel with a team of missionaries in a foreign land is not for everyone. Carpathian Mountain Outreach is geared towards frontline, active ministry and is best suited for single young men who meet the requirements listed below.
Age Requirement
Due to the nature of our ministry, we feel that 17 is the minimum age at which a young man should take part in CMO. However, the Lord has led differently in the past. If you are under 17 years old, and you feel that you would be a good candidate for CMO, please feel free to contact us. Such requests are reviewed by our board of directors and decided on a case by case basis.
Clear salvation testimony
If you are going to tell others how to be saved, you need to be confident of your own salvation first. When you apply for CMO, we ask that you send us a printed copy of your personal testimony - that is, how you came to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior.
Financial support
While we recognize the validity of total trust in the Lord for financial support, we need to have at least a general idea of how you plan to pay for your expenses during your stay overseas. ETO is NOT a mission board, and we do not provide financial assistance for team members serving with us. Each team member (including our full time staff) must be responsible for their own finances.
While serving with ETO, you will need to cover such expenses as rent, food, transportation, and whatever medical needs may arise. At this time, we estimate that you will need a minimum of $750 per month. This amount may change as prices in Eastern Europe are going up. If you have questions about finances, please contact us.
Minimum two month service commitment
We ask that all young men serving with ETO commit to at least two months. It is not practical to come for less. Although CMO will last longer than two months, you do not necessarily need to arrive at the beginning. You will find information regarding arrival windows in the CMO 2009 Application.
If you are a married man or a pastor (church leader), and feel that two months is more than you would be able to stay, please contact us about this. We recognize that for some, a shorter stay would be more beneficial.
Our Statement of Faith
Before you sign up to serve with ETO, we ask that you review our Statement of Faith. This document outlines the basic doctrines which we hold as fundamental to the Christian faith. While we do not ask anyone to strictly conform to every detail, we do need to know that you are generally on the same page. You may read our Statement of Faith online or download it in PDF format.

Frequently Asked Questions
I want to come for CMO, but I am under 17. Can I still come?
Our minimum age requirement for all ETO outreaches is 17. There are many reasons for this, the main ones being maturity and liability concerns. However, we know that God can call someone younger than that. If you are under 17, and you feel strongly that God is calling you to serve with ETO, please contact us. Such requests are evaluated by our board on a case by case basis.
I want to come for CMO, but I am not a US/Canadian citizen. Can I still come?
Euro Team Outreach deals primarily with US/Canadian citizens. We are a US-based organization, and all of our materials, application forms, legal documents, etc. are geared for Americans/Canadians.
At present, the immigration requirements imposed on American or Canadian citizens are fairly lenient. If you are a non-US/Canadian citizen, and you feel that God is calling you to serve with ETO, please contact us. Such requests are evaluated by our board on a case by case basis.
How much does it cost to participate in CMO?
At present, the cost is about $750 per month minimum. This amount can be broken down into two basic parts: 1) Personal Support (~$400 per month) and 2) Operations Fee ($350 per month).
Your personal support is for such things as food, transportation costs and other items you will want/need to purchase while in Ukraine. We recommend a minimum personal support level of $400 per month, but ultimately this is up to you. The Operations Fee ($350 per month) is mandatory for all CMO team members. The fee will cover your rent, utilities, literature, and other ministry related expenses which you will incur during the project. You may pay the fee monthly or in a lump sum at the beginning of the project.
What is the minimum time commitment required to participate in CMO?
We ask all team members who join us for CMO to commit to at least two months. We feel that by staying at least two months, team members will receive maximum benefit and development from the project. However, if you would like to participate in CMO and are not able to stay that long, we would still like to talk to you. Please contact us to discuss the details of your particular situation. Such cases are ultimately decided by our board on a case by case basis.
I am a pastor/church leader. May I come for less time than the standard two-month minimum?
Yes you may. We recognize that pastors/church leaders have obligations which often do not allow for extended absences. If you are interested in visiting CMO during the summer, please contact us to discuss further details.
I am married and/or have children. May I come for less time than the standard two-month minimum?
Yes you may. Please contact us to discuss further details.
I would like to come for CMO, but I'm not sure if I'll have the minimum amount that you specify for monthly support. Can I still come?
If you are not sure that you will have all the necessary funds for your support while in Ukraine, or if you have less than our recommended minimum, you are still welcome to come. We believe strongly that God is able to provide supernaturally for the needs of those who serve Him. However, make sure it is indeed God who is calling you. If you run short of money while you are here you may have to go home. Don't build a tower without counting the cost. (Luke 14:26)
During CMO, what kinds of expenses will I have to cover?
You will be responsible for any and all expenses that you incur. These include, but are not limited to:
- Apartment rent
- Ministry expenses
- Transportation costs (taxi's, trams, bus and train fares, etc.)
- Groceries
- Camping gear
I am a young lady, and I want to get involved in overseas missions. Does ETO have any projects for young ladies?
At this time all of our outreaches are setup to accommodate young men only. Many of our activities present situations (such as multi-day camping in the mountains) where a co-ed group would not be feasible. We hope that at some point in the future, we will have the staff necessary in order to expand our ministry and accommodate young ladies as well. We welcome you to pray with us about this!
I'd like to participate in CMO, but I don't know Ukrainian. How can I possibly tell people about Jesus?
Remember: a prophet is not without honor, save in his own country. Jesus made this observation Himself. If you come to Ukraine from overseas, you will have the ear of Ukrainians in a way that a local minister might not. Several of our staff speak fluent Ukrainian, and we will translate for you when necessary. There is also much that can be done without having to speak at all (e.g. tract distribution, chalk art, multimedia setup, literature printing and collation, etc.)
I am a youth minister. Can I bring a group of teenagers for CMO?
At this time, all of our outreaches are geared for mature young men at least 17 years old. In addition, our outreaches require a greater time commitment than most youth groups can manage. (2 month min.) However, if you have a mature, clean-cut, well behaved group of young people who want to get a taste of hands-on missions overseas, then contact us. Such requests will be evaluated by our board on a case by case basis.
